I'm being attacked by Gator Corporation

Gator, a very useful product at one time but one that is currently causing a lot of concern by many. Users have discovered a very disturbing feature of Gator. It tracts where you go, what you do, and then reports this activity to Gator. What else is it doing? Below is one example of ones experience I found while visiting a user forum.

More than I want, the Gator corporation is sending pop up ads while I surf the net and they look like genuine Windows-based dialog boxes asking if I want to download this and that. How can I kill the Gator?

- download and install AdAware and RefUpdate from here,
http://www.lsfileserv.com/
That will do the trick.
PS - be aware though, that whatever program downloaded this spyware onto your computer may cease to function after you rid yourself of Gator
------------------

Great suggestion with adaware also under tools/internet options/security/restricted sites and type any of the spyware names
and this will reduce them being picked up and downloaded to your pc
comet cursor,gator,doubleclick etc.

Use adaware but as mentioned earlier when you add name of spyware to the restricted list it must be done this way:
*.gator.com
*.gator.net
Always add .com and .net for each name with the *. this will help a lot.

I looked at one installation on a Windows XP machine and it was even called something else besides Gator. These types of programs are becoming more common on the internet. Some are harmless, while others can be very disruptive to your systems stability and security. Use caution when surfing and by all means, READ and UNDERSTAND any messages that POP up and ask you to proceed. Before you click on the OK or YES button, make sure you know what you are doing. Otherwise say NO.
